Family Hands finished product
Dear Deborah,
Didn’t we have a blast!? Thank you so much for letting me share your space and for teaching me a bit of your craft. By the time I was almost home I was struck with a huge sense of accomplishment. The whole experience, from following through to completion of the piece was amazing and wonderful for me.
Thank you again! – Mary
Fire & Ice Studio offers individual or group workshops to create a permanent work of art. “Family Hands” is a fun day to learn the process used in art glass sandblasting, while creating a beautiful family heirloom.
We copy images of family members’ hands — kids, Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa — and then use a sandblast masking process to put the images creatively onto the glass. When you are satisfied, we sandblast the images you’ve created permanently into the glass. You’ll have made a unique and personal piece of artwork and will be able to frame and hang it in a window or on a wall — wonderful memories for everyone in the family.
A “Family Hands” workshop makes a wonderful family reunion experience as well as a wonderful gift with a truly personal touch. Use them for weddings, special anniversaries, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, or a very special Valentine. The fun and creativity involved really make the project experience unforgettable. Everyone can work together for a fun day in an art glass studio.
Possible projects include groups of friends, new babies hands and/or feet, couples soon to be married, and even pet’s paw prints can be part of the artwork!
Photocopies and outlines drawn around the perimeters of everyone’s hands make the images that we use. Even if your family is spread all over the place, out of town family members can mail their photocopies and tracings for your use.
I am also available by commission to complete the artwork for your family. Collect all the handprints, footprints, or paw prints and the names that go with them, and I’ll create a custom art glass piece.
Project consists of:
Varies with project, starting at $400.00**. This includes the workshop above and the sandblasted finished artwork. The artwork is not usually blasted the same day unless it is a one-person workshop.
Commissioning a glass piece with your images for me to work on, i.e. baby hands and feet, or a complete “Family Hands” project long distance, is the same price as attending a workshop.
All workshops must be scheduled in advance and all participants must sign a liability waiver. Adults must be available to supervise children.
* Fire & Ice Studio offers “Family Hands” workshops out of the studio at varying times and places — please contact us for updated information and personalized project or scheduling requests.
** Pricing subject to change, special orders for glass size, shape and depth are additional.
